A regular car battery is 13.8 volts, If your cpap needs 24v it will probably accept +/- 2-4 volts without a problem but you need to check the specs. You can put 2 12v (13.8v) batteries in series to double the voltage like this:

Battery #1 + to the + on your device
Battery #1 - to the + on battery #2
Battery #2 - to the - on your device

Red is + and Black is -

For safety I would suggest putting an in-line fuse which you can get at a auto parts store. Maybe an inline switch too.

You can use a car battery for battery #1 and another 12v (13.8v) battery for battery #2 to get the 24v. Or simply buy 2 12v batteries like motorcycle or tractor batteries.

Another issue is the current draw (in amps or milliamps). An amp is 1000 milliamps so 2400 milliamps is 2.4 amps. This will determine how long the batteries last. The physically bigger the battery, the more the current capacity.
