Insomnia or CPAP problem?

Posted by SleepyTimeGal on April 17, 2002 at 13:45:43:

I don't know whether I should be posting this problem here or on the insomnia forum, so if someone wants to redirect me, that's okay.

I've had my CPAP since October, '01, and generally find it comfortable. My problem is that I seem to doze off rather quickly, then wake up and have difficulty getting back to sleep. Usually I find I need to use the bathroom, and I'm up every half-hour or hour till I've made three bathroom trips, then around midnight or 1:00 a.m., I fall asleep and usually sleep through till morning. This is driving my husband crazy, as he has to get up very early.

I've tried to change my bedtime, etc., but nothing seems to help. If I set the alarm to rise early -- which I would like to do and was my pattern prior to sleep apnea -- I find myself running up sleep debt rather than being able to fall asleep earlier.

I've tried melatonin, benadryl and various OTC herbal aids, to no avail. Is it time to contact my doctor? Is there something I've missed? I really want to get away from this awake and 3-trips a night routine. Thanks.

Kathleen
