sleep study results--disappointing!

Posted by Joy on April 17, 2002 at 17:40:03:

Hi All, Well I had my first sleep study done on APril 4th and I got the results today. Not very encouraging!
I have been sick and tired since the age of 13 (now 37) with epsiodes of severe fast heart rate along with very high blood pressure, get extremely tired if I am up over 8 hours at a time. If I am up over 8 hours, I can actually feel my heart in my throat, my ears ring, my eyes become very blood shot, headache, jaws clench and I cant focus or concentrate, it is so hard to fall asleep when I feel like dying, it takes me about 2 hours to fall asleep even with sleep aids. (I have a very difficult time at work, it is so hard for me to make it thru the day, most people I work with think I am stupid but I am really smart its just that I am so tired I cant think.)
This happens to me every night until I take some sort of sleeping aid so I can fall asleep. I have been dx'd with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel and supraventricular tachycardia, severe allergies to pencillin, cat hair and saliva, mold, all grasses and trees, etc.
I have been to so many different kinds of drs. trying to give me some sort of life but no one can figure it out. Finally I thought maybe it was thyroid related or adrenal related so I went to 5 different endos, they ran test and said I dont have a gland problem so one endo suggested a sleep specialist, this was my last hope and now that is being shattered.
Anyway, I didnt get a copy of the results, he just wrote down some numbers for me. This is what he wrote:
Intermittment, loud snoring
stopped breathing 19X
Oxygen normal 94-95%
Heart normal
No kicking
Feel alseep in 74 minutes
slept 5 hrs, 18 min
little dreaming(he actually had down arrows)
woke up 73X
Very little REM sleep
Well, he said I am borerline and that my insurance wont cover a CPAP. So he is going to try some medication and see if that helps. He prescribed Ambien (in dire need) and Vivactil (a antidrepessant) to take every night to help fall asleep and also a nasal spray to use before bed.
Can anyone help me? Are these results normal? Should I push a little further or try the meds and see if they help?
Thanks for everything! Joy
