Gearhead,
I can relate to most of your experiences. 43yo male, Graduate school, but NOT married and not a great achiever at work. No social life by choice.
I got on cpap ten months ago. THERE IS MORE THAN HOPE FOR YOU, you have a 99% chance of turning your life around completely.
CPAP has made such a difference for me that I admit to be addicted to it. I won't sleep without it ever (even abroad)and I use 100% of the time in bed. I could tell the difference after the first night!
Let me warn you, my old habits of not socializing are still with me, but I feel 400% better. Now I have the energy, but not the habit. It will be a gradual process to change old habits. In your case, you are lucky, you have a wonderful wife and a baby on its way. You will use most of the extra energy and disposition to enjoy that blessing. At the same time, you will be doing better at work and eventually (when you are ready) will get something that you like better.
Your thinking will be clearer, you'll eat better, exercise and be more open to restablish social relationships and to include your parents as an integral part of your life.
Every second that goes by from now on, you'll be getting closer and closer to a better life. IT WILL WORK OUT!
I feel like I know you because I've been there, I am you, in a way.
Please keep us posted here and we will support you all the way. Pretty soon you'll be doing it for others.
I love you and may Life bless you from now on.
