I hate to guess how many posts I have read on this forum, but it has been over a three year period. Virtually all the symptoms you have mentioned have been discussed by others as relating to OSA (other than over working your self).
The effects of sleep apnea are far reaching and can create havoc, as you know. The good news is that with a comitted use of CPAP, you will get better.
Gearhead, it ain't easy! It's not fun at all! You are angry now about the time and opportunities that have been lost, and justifiably so, but you well may become more angry about having to suck air through a hose in order to recover. But it is worth it!!!
It will take some time, and you will have to work at it. But you will get better!!!!
Your post suggests that you may have had sleep apnea most of your life, and so you may not even be aware of what good sleep is. If you will make the effort to persever with sleep apnea, as you have with your career, you will find a new life, and be able to deal with your career in a whole new light. It is really amazing how this world looks from an awake, clear headed perspective.
A couple suggestions to make things easier. Take it slow. Deal with one problem at a time. Keep a detailed journal. (include current condition, any changes in condition no matter how minor, sleep times, any problems, attempted solutions, what worked, and a sleep calander/journal). Read everything you can on sleep apnea. You must be in charge with this condition. Most doctors are not up to date. If you don't know, you can get in trouble.
I have been doing this for nearly three years now, and I would not consider sleeping without my machine. I hate it, but don't try and take it! It won't happen! It has really changed my life! It has given me back things I didn't even realize I had lost. And I am still getting better.
Rely on this forum for answers. We do understand. We go through the same problems. Don't be bashful about asking more questions, and let us know how it goes.
Oh, Yeah! There is a thread below about "sleep debt and sleep deprivation". I wrote a post there that will be helpful. It is a key aspect of your recovery so read it.
Write if you have other questions!
