Delta sleep is slow wave sleep (SWS called stage 3&4). To get to stage 3 and 4 you need (usually) to first go through the lighter stages of 1 and 2. If you have OSA you obstruct and arouse and then wake up before your brain has slowed down to delta wave activity and you have to start again. REM typically follows - after 3/4 and a drop down to stage 2/1 and then a REM episode. But people with OSA are typically REM deprived so they might go into REM relatively quickly. In short -people with OSA get less stage 3 and 4 (slow wave sleep or delta sleep) and less REM than they otherwise would without OSA. But people with OSA are also typically middle aged and can be expected to have less stage 3/4 than when they were in their 20s anyway as a natural aging process.
