Hi, thanks to all of you for responding and for your concern! I really appreciate it!
I had the dr. office fax me my results today, I would like to share those with all of you if you dont mind.
I plan to call my insurance tom. and see what the requirements are for a CPAP. I work with a guy that has severe sleep apnea (I have different insurance than him) and I have been talking to him about all of my symptoms and he thinks that I have all the symptoms of sleep apnea and that I should be treated with a CPAP. I have been suffering for 24 years with severe fatigue.
Well anyway, here is what the sleep study results say:
Total recording tiime of 436 minutes.
Respiratory airflow and effort measures disclosed 19 hypopneas, for a respiratory disturbance index of 3.5. Baseline oxygen saturation was 95% abd stayed over 94 during the night. The mean heart rate was 71 beats per min. during REM and 73 beats per min. during non-REM sleep. No significant cardiac arrthymias were noted. Sleep efficiency was mildly decreased at 74.1%, reflecting a prolonged sleep onset of 74.5 minutes and total sleep time of 318 minutes. Percent of sleep stages revealed increased stage 1 at 30.8%, normal stage 2 at 47.8%, normal stage 3 and 4 at 9.9% and 5.2%, however, stage REM was severely decreased at 6.3% with a prolonged latency of 210.5 mintues. In addition, there were 27 awakenings and 46 arrousals. Arrousal index was 8.7.
Polysomnogram demonstrated the presence of mild snoring with frequent arouslas but few respiratory events which is suggestive of characterized by predominace of ligthr stage of sleep and sleep fragmentation. This may be in part to medication effect (zyrtec and Guaifenein). Clinical correlation is suggested.
Diagnose: Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
If anyone has any more ideas or suggestions please help, I am so desperate! Thanks again! Joy
