Congestion and itchy nose.....

Posted by Michael K. on May 05, 2002 at 20:14:42:

Hello all. I am on day 5 of CPAP, 8cm, Goodnight 418G, passive humidifier and Breeze nasal pillows. So far all is going pretty well. I usually wake up 2-4 times a night, but just long enough to scratch my nose and then back to sleep. I tend to think that the nasal pillows are the cause of the itchy nose, but I'm not sure. I've searched this site for similar problem but I haven't seen mention of exactly the same problem. I use Ayr gel before putting on the headgear and it is usually several hours into sleep before the itching occurs. Could the Ayr be preventing the itch early on and then wear off causing the itch? The itch kind of feels like the hairs in my nose being irritated where the pillows go in. It's not really a big deal, but I think the itch is the only reason I'm not able to sleep the whole night thru without waking, so a cure would be great...Also, I see lots of mention of nasal congestion and how heated humidifier would help, but I haven't seen mention of chest congestion.(no I haven't searched for it yet)I've noticed since starting CPAP that I wake with a little chest congestion every morning. Would this also be helped by a heated humidifier? So far since starting the passive humidifier, I haven't really had a dry nose or any nasal congestion, just a little chest congestion....Any help is appreciated.....
