The human body has a defense mechanism to protect the respiratory system. The moving air which is used to create the pressure to keep our airways open has a cooling and drying effect on this defense system that is contrary to it's purpose.

You can also do a search on the forum using the search button at the top of most pages and entering "mucociliary transport system". The first word would probably get it also.

Research shows overwhelmingly that heated humidification is needed by most people.
