Hi,

I'm an engineer too (female)- I don't know if you are male or female - hormonal issues can really have a negative impact on memory, concentration, and sleep (male and female hormones). In addition to having OSA, obstructive sleep apnea, and using CPAP I go to two other REALLY helpful specialists - a neuro-endocrinologist (who is doing sleep research - I really lucked out with him) - and a psycho-pharmacologist (who's very up on new drugs and also great). There are prescription meds that can help(Provigil for concentration/alertness). And there are supplements too (I've had good luck with Coenzyme Q-10, 100mg daily; if your DHEA levels are low (a blood or saliva test will tell you) you might be helped by DHEA.))
If you do the blood test for hormone levels try to have the 'free' or 'unbound' test done - do some research into it before you see a doctor - I know they do these tests on women and I can't see why they wouldn't do them on men because they are also checking male hormones in women.

I too waited for ages before getting the sleep study - that was a mistake - adjusting to the CPAP has been very problematic but I do believe OSA is a major part of my sleep problem - I just happen to 'luck out' and have a few other side isses! ;>)

Best of luck -
