sleep apnea and Xanax

Posted by Zinnia on May 08, 2002 at 10:28:32:

From all the symptoms I have read about, I believe I have sleep apnea. I went to an ENT and he recommended I have septoplasty for a deviated septum. That was 4 weeks ago and I have had one good night's sleep. I wake up gasping for breath and my heart pounding. My husband says he has noticed that I have episodes where I quit breathing. Right now I am taking .5mg Xanax and Remeron (anti-depressant) before going to bed. I have been reading that anti-anxiety medications may cause the sleep apnea to be worse. I have been told it will take 2 months to see a sleep specialist in my area. I'm so tense that I can't sleep when I've tried doing without Xanax. Can someone recommend anything I can do in the meantime? Thanks.
