I think you've already read my msg in this or forum 91 on how to use one's tongue as a soft plug. If you have not, pls search for BostonBoy postings.
My guess is that your tongue is relaxing during your deepest sleep, but the chin strap is preventing your jaw from dropping back at the same time - so the air has access to your cheeks. It's only a guess .. but I'm wondering whether the fix is to abandon the strap and rely entirely on using your tongue? It works for me, so I don't get the puffing you are experiencing. Let me know if it works!
