Posted by Addy on May 31, 2002 at 19:17:56:Ever notice that you might see some name or some event for the first time and then it seems like you are seeing it everywhere? I work in the behavioral sciences and I was having this very discussion with my supervisor the other day.
We agreed it is just a matter of increased awareness that suddenly makes us think the event is novel when indeed, it has been around - we are just more aware.
In this vain, I was performing my usual last void of the night before bed when suddenly I had a strange feeling that I would wake up at 4:22 a.m. for some odd reason.
In the middle of the night, I found myself coming out of and drifting into a dream for a while when I felt the need to get up but wanted to keep drifting in sleep.
Finally, I figured I might as well use the bathroom. I looked at the clock (mind you, I was avoiding for a while opening my eyes and getting up)and it read 4:22 a.m.
Weird, huh?
Obviously, that is a feather in the cap of an internal clock system at work in our brains. I must have set a subliminal message in my mind.
