Long Time Cpap User

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 1976..One specialist in the N.Jersey area was diagnosing and treating the disorder at the time..Unfortunately this was long before Cpap was created..The only CURES at that time was tremendous weightloss.. or permanent trachiatomy...I dont believe soft palette reduction surgery was an option..When respironics offered the FIRST generation of Cpap.I had my first sleep study in the FIRST and only CPap lab in NJ at Robert Woods Johnson Hospital, actually it hadnt changed to that name as of yet.I bought the first Cpap it wasa monster 2ft longpprox 14inchs high..and LOUD..sounded like a jet engine...second generation theycut the length in half..same height..same NOISE level..Over the years ive had many many sleep studys and have had several cpaps..Im so used to using the cpap..i dont use ramp i just slap it on and go to sleep :)..Ive learned to get around all the problems associated with cpap usage..dry mouth..nose sensitivity..hose tangling etc..I recently went for another sleep study..my pressure is 12-16 varying by postition..because i came aware of the auto sensing cpap..and am going to try it...Cpap saved my life..I was falling asleep driving..I would fall asleep if i sat still for more than 5 minutes..Its worth the effort and the discomfort to get USED to using CPap..the benefits are immense..when i first put my mask on I said OMG it was like a hurricane shooting up my nose..but that was then..this is now..cpaps have evolved..and it sure has improved my quality of life...I was removed from High blood pressure meds..no more daytime drowsiness..im alert..and weight loss....hang in there all you newbies..its truly worth it..

Just my Ramblings
