I am in HR although not on the employer relations side, so this is just my own opinion (NOT as a professional HR person!). First of all, I don't know if sleep apnea is covered under ADA. The other thing is that employers must reasonably accommodate the disabilities of qualified applicants or employees, including modifying work stations and equipment, unless undue hardship would result - I don't know if regular monitoring of your situation or allowing you to take naps is considered undue hardship or not - that depends on your work situation/employer, etc. Also, I don't know whether you have to use the words to the effect of "I need you to make reasonable accommodations because of my disability" in order for them to recognize what's going on; otherwise, it's just like a conversation between employee and boss. Here are some resources in case it will help:

ADA website: http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/ada/adahom1.htm
ADA hotline: 800-514-0301 (they have folks who can answer questions)

Good luck.
