It is a device that pumps room air through a molecular sieve capable of retaining oxygen while passing nitrogen. The oxygen is then offered to the patient through a conventional xPAP circuit.
Oxygen concentrators are suitable only for patients who need "topping up" help.
They were originally developed for fighter pilots, and they have been around in one form or another for over 30 years. But even the newest versions are power hungry, so the economics of using them needs a second glance before signing the DME's paperwork!
