Boy, I sure am glad that you weren't around to encourage me about starting on cpap.

I don't have my numbers in front of me right now, but they say I have fairly mild apnea. I struggled for two years with a quack doctor and ineffective treatment. I'm glad I stuck with it until I found a good doctor and made some adjustments in my system.

Since then, my blood pressure has dropped to safe levels and I don't need the medication they were threatening to put me on. This is especially important since both my grandfathers experienced a series of strokes and my father has had three open heart surgeries. Oh yeah, I can still remember the sound of my father's disturbed sleep each night when I was a child.

My quality of life has also improved. I can actually remember things without having to write them down. Used to be that if my boss gave me more than one instruction at a time I would forget what they were before I left the room unless I wrote them down (that will get you promotions and raises). I can actually watch tv or see a movie without going to sleep. I can even get together (and want to) with friends for an evening without being worn out and/or falling asleep. I can even enjoy playing with my grandsons without falling asleep not to mention being irritable. And on and on....

I guess I don't count in the accident information. I didn't have any accidents, but I was driving 50 mi round trip to work each day and for about 45 miles of it I couldn't tell you anything about it except for the times I jolted awake because I was running off the road or heading for an oncoming car. This was on narrow 2 lane country roads and on I35 through Waco. Now staying awake and alert while driving is no problem. One way my quality of life has dropped is that my wife used to drive everytime we got in the car together (while I slept). Now I get to be her chauffer.

Now if I could just lose all the weight I gained while I was too exhausted to keep it off because of the apnea.
