What do you mean by a "nasal cannula"? Is this like the tiny tubing that you use with oxygen?
Is this what he has used for the full two years? Cannulas are not usually used to deliver the aire because they do not prevent the air from leaking out of the nasal passages. Why doesn't a mask work with facial hair? There is some positive discussion of this facial hair thing just a little earlier in this particular forum. You might want to scroll back and check this out. Usually the personality problems go away after the CPAP really gets to working so you might check as to whether or not he is breathing through his mouth or still snoring. If either of these things are happening, he needs to consult his DME or sleep doctor about leakage or a mask that works better for him. Furthermore, the fact that he still goes to sleep while driving tends to indicate that the CPAP system needs to be tweaked because if it is working properly, this should not be happening any more. Keep us posted!
