Actually, the strap fix doesn't have to be homemade. Just use a sweatband or other stretchy material placed around the head and mask, over the air hose and below the vent that allows escape of exhaled air. Just be careful the vent isn't blocked (band may slip) and watch out for the plastic caps for the oxygen ports (they may pop off).
