Not terribly sure. Perhaps, you are just more aware of the gasping now.

Perhaps also your body had made some adjusts to live with Apnea, and these "adjustments" are no longer in place. For instance, my red blood cell count was elevated prior to diagnosis, and fell to normal within a month of CPAP.
