I have had a CPAP machine since 1997. I have had to change insurance two times in the last year and in doing so, even though I had coverage, I could not get my insurance to contact me to have my machine checked. I had dropped it in my move and it sounds funny. I also needed a new head gear because my old one was held together with rubber bands and had pieces missing. I finally have KaISER INS. They gave me a new head gear, but because my records on my sleep test at UCLA were not available, their sleep department told me they would re-test me. They gave me two different machines to bring home over two nites to test myself, with directions how to use them. I was distraught to find they checked the machines and said my tests showed (4.8)whatever that means, and I didn't have sleep apnea at all. My first test was done with a technician putting all kinds of electrodes on me and staying in the hospital over nite. After I got my machine, I stopped snoring, being scared to drive because it made me sleepy, and was able to stay awake more than the usual two or three hours at a time. I also woke up in the morning refresed. Of course I am still using my old machine and new headgear they gave me before the test, but I need help with checking out the machine or getting a new one. Is the self testing a valid one and how can I get further help from my insurance? Also, I have har that people who test out at (2) whatever this means, are in need of a machine and have one.
