Poor Outcome UPPP Operation

Posted by Paul on August 08, 2002 at 22:32:16:

I was diagnosed with OSA five years ago. I tried CPAP three times with little success. In April I had the UPPP operation. This was supposed to eliminate the OSA. Two months ago I became so depressed I had to go on disability.
I then had a sleep study three months after the surgery.
It showed in stage two I was getting 70% of sleep. In stage three less than 1%. In stage four 0%. In stage five 7%of sleep. Can anyone tell me what normal is? I saw the ENT physican that ordered it. He said the opening to my airway was about the size of my little finger. He said the best solution would be a trach. I got a second opinion and the second ENT said he could make two slits in the back of my throat. Next week I am scheduled to get a third opinion. Has any one had this experience? What worked for you. I would certainly appreciate your help.
