I believe the depression is a combination of things. Definitely when one does not sleep well, you slow down, find you cannot do alot of things you used to or enjoyed doing and that in itself can become depressing after a while. When you are not well rested you are less able to cope with everyday stresses and that can be depressing. Also, when you are not well rested you do become irritable and less tolerant and are not able to control your emotions as easily. In other words, you lose control easier. That can be depressing. You can become overwhelmed & frustrated. You don't eat properly and tend to crave unhealthy foods. Lack of sleep can also cause psychosis. it is actually a combination of physical and psychological issues. And, No, there is no biological tests for this.
