Just a tidbit from my experience...

My "sleepiness" was treated as depression for years. I tried various antidepressants, including those that raise serotonin levels, non of which were effective. I therefore question the impact sleep deprivation has on serotonin and/or other neuro/brain chemical production. Perhaps the impact is present, but the equation involves other chemicals reactions, and, as CindySue has suggested, there is a complex interaction of other outside factors. Maybe antidepressants can help some cases, but it didn't help my condition. I would be interested in hearing from other CPAP users who actually benefited from antidepressants.
