Question 61- Do all MMA patients require orthodontics?

From: Stephen

Do all MMA patients need to have orthodontics in place during the procedure and post recovery? Even if the bite abnormality is corrected or the persons bite does not need correction? It seems like this was a requirement but is it for insurance mostly or medical reasons? I’m asking because I doubt I will be able to afford it anytime soon before my orthodontic treatment is over. Thanks

Hi Stephen,

I typically do not require patients to have orthodontia prior to MMA. Obviously, it depends on the degree of malocclusion but I have been able to manage over 90% of the MMA patients without orthodontia.
