Question 64- What is the long term effectiveness rate for MMA?

From: Bob

I'm probably going to have MMA surgery this year and was wondering what the long term effectiveness rate is for this surgery. Does the body just fill in the void created by the surgery over time?

Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob,

In general, MMA has a good success rate. However, one needs to realize that the natural history of sleep apnea is that it gradually worsens with aging, for everyone. MMA simply resets the level of severity but does not stop mother nature. There are factors that cause contribute to more rapid worsening such as weight gain. The body does for bone and fills in the void.
