this is called "rythmic movement disorder" it is genetic. I had it as well as my father and his father. I wouldn't worry. I have become an avid lucid dreamer an advocate of trance states. My parents used to come in and spank me when it woke them up, and eventualy made me switch to just kicking my feet. I hold a bit of resentment about that, though. I believe most people grow out of it, Although i find my self occassionaly "bangin' my head" and I am 28.
