Adderall,my 5yr old,and No sleep.

Posted by Sabrina on April 06, 2000 at 10:21:22:

Hello.
My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD,and was put on Adderall 5mgs 2x's a day his last dose being 1pm.
He refuses to sleep, doesn't want to sleep, and litterally wears himself out fighting, yelling, screaming, kicking etc himself to sleep.it usually take my husband and myself 5 hours to get him to bed.He always hated bedtimes, but it would normally take 30 mins-1 hour to get him to bed before putting him on the Adderall.Does anyone else have this problem with their child on Adderall as well, what works to get them to sleep. My son is looking horrible, has lost weight and now has black circles under his eyes from lack of sleep. We have tried everything, praise punishment, rewards for good behavior, etc.Right now he has no toys because of going to bed so badly,no going on outings, and is perfectly happy with this.I truly don't know what to do,his doctors say it will pass, but what can we do in the time it takes for it to? My husband and I haven't been alone for even one hour in a month, and we also have a 3 month old to take care of,we cannot keep being awake with our 5 yr old 18-20 hours a day,it's really harming us all.
Any help would be appreciated,Thank you.
