First-I must say I'm a UK family medical practitioner BUT I OFFER NO WARRANTY JUST ANECDOTE IF CONCERNS PERSIST CONSULT YOUR FAMILY PHYSICIAN ETC ETC (how sad the world is etc etc)
I used to rock myself to sleep with such force that the cot had to be tied to the wall and eventually broke! All my life I've discretely asked child psychologists I've met(hypothetically speaking of course) and I've not had a good answer-they ranged from pathological to boredom to habit. All I can say that as I grew up I did it less -there have times when as an adult I find myself gently rocking to get to sleep if my head is buzzing from the day. I try not to do it when my wife is in bed!! Am I sane? Am I normal? Not for me to say but unless there was other repetitive/complsive behaviour I would not let it become a matter of conflict or angst. REFER TO CAUTION AT BEGINNING
