8 year old who's afraid to go to sleep

Posted by Lynn Distler on December 07, 1999 at 12:23:34:

My 8 year old daughter went to a sleep over at the end of September and ghost stories were told. Ever since there, she's afraid of the dark; she thinks she hears "noises", she thinks she sometimes sees "ghosts." This has all led to her not wanting to go to sleep because she's "afraid." She won't go to a different level of the house at night if she knowns no one else is there.
This is becoming a problem because she is not getting the sleep that she needs. She more frequently wakes up with nightmares too. I have tried everything I can think of. We leave the lights on, we put music on, we read her "nice" stories before she goes to bed, but nothing seems to help. Any help I can get would be very appreciated.
Thanks
