aspergers syndrome and sleep problems

Posted by louc on February 04, 2000 at 03:27:09:

Hi,
I have a 7 year old daughter with Aspergers syndrome, everynight we go through the same thing when she goes to bed at 7.30pm,her stressing sets in,she starts thinking of everything that has happened in that day,and then gets herself into a state. We have tried relaxation music, the television on as she needs some distraction from her thinking about stuff she says.Staying in the room with her until she goes to sleep, but I feel that is not a answer for the long term, she need to be able to put herself to sleep. We ask her about the things that stressed her, when she gets home from school in a attempt to nip it in the bud.She will tell us somethings ,but at bedtime it is the same again, she also wake about 2 times in the night and come into my husband and myself,s bed which then makes us sleep deprived and irritable the next day.I do not feel this is because she has gotten herself into a habit .She is genuinely overloading. Has anyone got any suggestion?I feel so helpless not being able to help her.Thankyou in advance...Louc
