16 mth old refuses to sleep alone

Posted by Mia on February 21, 2000 at 22:56:09:

My 16 mth old daughter refuses to sleep alone. As an infant she would always fight her sleep and would only fall asleep in bed with either me or my husband. Once she fell asleep we would put her in her crib which was also in our room. When she was about 9 months old she began waking at night and refusing to go back to sleep (crying & screaming) until we put her in our bed. When she was 14 months old we tried getting her to sleep in her own room in her own bed. She would cry for hours! We tried going in and comforting her every 5 then 10 then 15 minutes as suggested but she would cry until she would vomit! After her third vomit we brought her back to our room but again trying to get her to at least sleep in her own bed. Now she is worse then ever! But as long as we are in bed with her she will sleep peacefully through the night. Any suggestions?

P.S. I also have a 6 week old who is colic and will not sleep for more then 2-3 hours at night and will not go down until 1-2am. So my husband sleeps in one room with our 16 mth old and I in another with the 6 wk old.
