I have sought physicians advice in the past for my three children who have experience night terrors. The only advice they have given is to reassure your child and comfort them. I am not sure there is any thing that can really be done, short of sedating your child at night, and no one wants to do that. My third daughter Jill also experiences about 3 night terrors a week. It is frightening for us as parents, as there is nothing we have found to prevent this from happening. The episodes occur about an hour after she falls asleep, and she sweats, trembles, screams and cries. At times, the terrors are so severe, she seems to be almost convulsive, which leads me to wonder if it is a neurological disorder. I hope this is something she will out grow, as my older two daughters did, but at this point, the terrors seem to happen with a greater frequency than ever. It helps to hear about other people's experiences with this.
