3 year old daughter with sleep problems

Posted by Jeff on March 12, 2000 at 21:01:16:

It all started after she had a febral siezier. It scared her mother and my self half to death. We took her to the ER, where they proceeded to bring her temp. down. They then started to do some tests on her to find out what caused the seizure. Lexie (our daughter) was just begining to potty train, but the ER doc. cuoldn't wait for her to go on her own, and started a catheter-spelling might be off a little. It was very hard to be in the same room, she was screaming like I had never heard. Since then, potty training has gone out the window, she won't fall asleep in her own bed. We have reduced to letting her fall asleep on the couch. After she's asleep sometimes we take her up to her bed, other times we leave her on the couch. Either way she wakes up, sometimes cries out, but lately she gets up and comes into our bed. It's not only at home that she does this. Her grandmother took her and her five year old brother for the night. She woke up crying, and had the look of fear on her face until she felt safe, which ended up being in bed with her.
Another thing that has happened after the ER incident is that she will lay or sit and just tense up.Her toes are pointed straight out, grits her teeth, and she pushes on her lower abdnomin.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the trama from the ER visit, but it is very frustrating for her mom and I. We have gone to the pediatrician, but they saying it is just a three year old, and shouldn't worry about it. A doctor at Childrens hospital told us that as far as the sleeping in our bed, "Nip it in the bud". What is that supposed to mean?!?
If any buddy has any info. that might be helpful, or even some advice, it whould be very appreciated.
Thanks.
