There is apparently a close relationship between nearsightedness and leaving a light on all night. I got a response from the "parent soup" sleep bulletin board from a mom who had seen an article. The most damage is done before age one, so I'm too late. I would contend that anything that got my hard-to-bed kids to sleep was an overall plus. My younger son has barely-detectable nearsightedness-- nothing that requires correction-- and my older son is fine. Both had the light on (15 watts) all night. I've decided not to worry about it!
