I am experiencing exactly the same problem with my daughter who's also 26 months. I made the same mistake - lying with her, singing her songs and telling her stories until she fell asleep. I've just found the following advice on a website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/features/sleep_disturbed.shtml) ... 'If they get out of bed and leave their room, you may have to restrict their freedom somehow until you break the pattern ... one of the kindest strategies is a simple latch, high up on the bedroom door, which allows them to open it a few inches and see out but which stops them opening the door fully. Make sure the room is safe first of course.' I'm going to try this and I'll let you know whether it works - the advice states it usually does in 2/3 days. Fingers crossed!
