3yr old sleeping all the time. is this normal

my 3yr old son has begun to sleep all the time. the other day he went to bed at 4:30p and did not get up untill 8a the next morning. He also naps during the day most days and Im wondering if he has a problem. He is very irritable and grouchy if he doesnt go to sleep.
