No, I don't think you are grasping at straws!
My 4 1/2 yr old son appears on most days to be fatigued... not only by appearance, but by his behavior -- "tired" behavior. As far as I know, he doesn't not have enlarged tonsils, but he does have a history of not sleeping thru the night. Several nights a week he either wakes up sobbing or has night terrors (terrors have seemed to lessen somewhat). I stopped napping him when he was around 3 1/2 and have occasionally gone back to napping and his aggressive and wild behavior GREATLY diminishes after a few days of napping. I have felt something was lacking in his sleep since he was around 2 and keep getting dismissed by pediatricians. Kindergarten is just around the corner and I don't know how he will cope going in the p.m. class. It's just in my gut that I believe he doesn't get enough of the good sleep that he desperately seems to need and that most of his "naughty" behavior would go away if he just was more rested! Good Luck!
