Posted by Insomniac toddler making Mom Insane on June 03, 2001 at 19:20:18:Has anyone every seen/heard of the following type of sleep issue?: My son was a very colicky infant and did nothing but cry most of his waking hours from birth until he could start interacting with toys at age 4 mo or so. He rarely slept, if he did it was no more than 2 hours at a time and never through the night, although the crying backed off gradually. At 6-7 months he slept one 8 hr night. A normal night now consists of falling asleep in his crib around 9:30 or 10:00 p.m., waking in 30-60 minutes. Going back to sleep. Waking in about two hours, going back to sleep. Waking again around 2:30-3:30 a.m. and going back to sleep again. If we are lucky, he will then sleep for about 3 hours without waking. This is a typical night for us. Some nights are much worse. This child is a happy, busy and very energetic toddler all day long. He typically takes one 1-2 hour nap during the late morning or early afternoon. Never do we give sugar or naps after 6 p.m. He has until the past week woken at night and was wide awake for two hours, EVERY night. This has stopped occuring over the past four nights or so...... thank goodness! Out of desperation, I have pursuaded my pediatritian to refer us on to our local children's hospital sleep center. I hope they can help us. I am learning first hand the mental and physical woes of serious sleep depreivation!
