I too have a 9 yr old daughter who has been experiencing the same fear for about 6 months. It happened gradually and now there is a definite panic which begins early in the day..worried about bed time. By the time bed time arrives, 8:30pm, she is worried sick that she won't be able to fall asleep. I also will say that I am not being manipulated..this fear is very real. If I lay with her and have not given my word that I won't leave, she can lay awake for hours. If I promise not to leave, she will hold on to me very tight and fall asleep in about 1/2 hour. Also, if I let her sleep in her 11 yr old sisters room, she will fall asleep in about 1/2 hour. Up until 6 months ago, she feel asleep in her own bed almost immediately. She is very athletic and active. Not hyper. Healthy. I tried Benadryl about an hour before bed time and it seemed to help but I still had to lay with her. I'm not sure if it really helped or if she just believed that it would because she started asking for it when she started worrying. That concerned me so I told her I didn't think it made a difference and I wasn't giving her anymore. HELP
