This is to all of you parents out there that are having problems with their children and their sleep. If you are having a real problem, please seek professional help. Find a pediatric sleep disorders clinic near you and have your child evaluated. If they can't go to sleep without a pacifier, that's one thing, but if they have difficulty falling asleep, have RESTLESS sleep, frequent night awakenings, strong bedtime resistance, behavior problems in the day, or if they SNORE and/or mouth breathe, then your child really may have a sleep disorder! The term sleep disorder sounds like something bizarre or rare, but this is not the case. There are real physiologic reasons why the sleep is disturbed. If you are having a problem with your child's sleep, my guess is that your child is having a bigger problem, they just don't know how to tell you. Children do not typically demonstrate sleepiness the way we adults do. They are more apt to be hyper if they are over tired. Do yourself and (above all) your child a favor and have him or her evaluated. If you have any doubt, err to the benefit of your child. Do not ignore a real problem that may exist and is most likely very treatable.
