my three year old has sleep troubles!!!

My three year old daughter has not been sleeping through the night for about a year now. She used to wake up crying (but not screaming), and I would rock her and put her back to bed. Now that she's in a big girl bed, she gets up and comes into our room. When I rock her, she almost immediately goes back to sleep. For months that was fine. I would rock her for a few minutes, put her back in bed, no problem. But lately she has been waking up much more frequently (four or five times a night) and when I put her back in bed she acts angry and kicks off her blankets. She doesn't want to sleep in our bed either. She just wants to be held in the rocking chair. Her behavior during the day can be realy sweet and loving, but she is also very demanding and irritable. She contradicts herself all the time for instance saying she wants something, but when I give it to her she says she doesn't want it. I know you are thinking that I should have just let her cry it out a long time ago, but we also have a son who is 14 months younger than our daughter. I figured it was easier to try to keep her quiet than to have her wake him up too. I thought her frequent waking was just a phase, but here we are a year later and it seems to be getting worse. We have tried rewards and threats, but so far no luck. I have offered to let her sleep with me,but like I say, she doesn't want to be in bed - just in the rocking chair. I am pretty sure her behavior would be better and she would be happier if she were getting enough sleep. I know I would!
