my opinion is that a cold could cause the mouth breeathing, and anyone with a cold probably has some symptoms of sleep disoredered breathing during that time, but with her tonsils and adenoids enlarged, she will probably have a bigger problem than the average person. My son had upper airway resistance syndrome, which does NOT require a blockage, and does NOT require apnea. If there are a large # of unexplained arousals, this could be from UARS. The ultimate problem with my son was the sinusitis which caused him to mouth breath a great deal and the problem worsens when the child lies down. Don't write it off to just a cold if the mouth breathing continues very frequently. Look also for very foulsmellling breath in the morning, an infrequent or frequent cough. Stand at the doorway of her room a few times and see if you can "hear" her breathing, if you can, this is more symptomatic that there is a resistance problem. IF she has enlarged T&A, and allergy that may cause swelling in the nose, then there is resistance, and the more room she has to breathe, the better she will feel. Untreated sinusitis can really make them feel awful too though. I'd love to hear the results! Monica
