CO2 retention in 10 y/o without obstruction

Posted by mamaroyal on November 06, 2001 at 08:38:45:

I just recd the written report of my 10 y/o son's sleep study. While his oxygen sat did not go too low, his CO2 level was above 45 for 52% of the night, with it above 50% for 10% of the night. He only had 9 apneic events all night, with 6 of them being central and 3 being mixed, with the longest being 30 sec. long. They said the overnight study was normal, except for the "borderline high co2" result. His nap study did have 2 naps of REM sleep, but while he complains of daytime fatigue at times/brain fog, he does not have daytime sleepiness and does not have other narcolepsy symptoms. He does have other health problems, although he is in normal school, etc. The sleep specialist said the results of the test were "unusual", but our peds pulmonary doc got the report and isn't inclined to do anything. Any suggestions/input? Who is considered to be the leading peds sleep study doc in the country? I'd like to send the results to him/her for evaluation.
Thanks, mamaroyal
