I understand your concern about your son's fears, but I still think that he might be behaving like this solely because he has taken the habit of sleeping next to you. You see, it is very early that a baby learns how to comfort himself, how to fall alseep by himself, how to fall back asleep when briefly awake during the night. If he doesn't acquire these abilities, then you can expect 'sleep problems' later on. These are not real problems, just a habit being taken and hard to break.

Why should a child be constantly scared at night? If he has a normal life and enough love and attention from his parents? If he is healthy? I don't think that there is one good answer to that. And don't expect him to provide the answer. This being said, good luck!
