Posted by WorriedInNJ on May 31, 2002 at 07:04:33:My sister's 12 year old son has just recently started sleeping nightly with his father. Previously, he did this occassionally, and I think this heavily contributed to the current problem, but it was never a nightly event until the past few months.
If my sister tries to deter him or even sleep with them both, he has a tantrum and eventually she just gives up. He will so much as sleep on the floor, if it means he can still sleep in the same room. Incidentally, he has no problem with sleeping with Mom, but it can't be both at the same time.
The child says he has trouble sleeping because he 'hears things' but he falls asleep with the TV on (sleep timer). He knows it is causing problems but he says he doesn't think he can change. His parents think there's something deeper, and I do too; they asked me to research it since I'm the Net-saavy one.
Any help, or methods to immediately start deterring this behavior, would be appreciated.
