8 year old who will not sleep in her room

Posted by jeni jenkins on June 12, 2002 at 07:27:01:

My 8 year old has been sleeping on our bed since she was 4 yrs. old. It is really starting to take a toll on mine and my husband's relationship because we never have any time alone at night. How can I get her to stay in her own bed. She is afraid of the dark and even when I lay beside her in her bed at night she cries because she knows once she falls asleep I will go into my own room. We have tried night lights, letting her sister sleep with her. Everything. She is scared to even walk through our house at night by herself sometimes even if the lights are on. Is this a disorder of some kind or just habit. HELP.
