Stays awake for long periods

Posted by chris on June 14, 2002 at 08:20:19:

I am having problems with my 2 1/2 year old daughter's sleep. She has always been a poor sleeper since birth. She slept in her own room and crib always. She moved to a bed in january after refusing her crib and until 1 month ago got up repeatedly throughout the night. I took her to her doctor and he suggested Benadryl for 2 weeks to break the cycle. I also stopped going in to her at night. But she started night waking again. She gets up say at 2am and stays up for 2-3 hours. It seems like she can not get back to sleep, she is not tired. I have tried earlier bed times, later bed times. Nap and no naps. It does not seem to matter. She is albe to fall asleep alone but I do stay with her for awhile before. I have read Ferber and Weisebleiff and tried it all. She does not appear to have breathing problems and does not snore. Sometimes I end up sleeping in her room for awhile and have not seen signs of it. She was diagnosed with a milk allergy at birth and 1 month ago came back negative for it. But she gets limited cows milk products because she still gets rashes from it and doc said to still avoid then. She still nurses also. I am just not sure what the sleep issue could be. I want to know if any other children stay up for so long. It is not every night and I can not predict what factors affect it. She is very active and very intelligent. Any insights would be great. I am a stay at home mom and there are no tensions in the home. Thanks
