When my son was a year and a half he no longer needed a nap. He goes to bed at 7 pm every night and will sleep to 8am. This was after I took the nap out. Some kids mature faster and don't need naps, even at young ages. P.S. don't read the books, listen to your child. Most people who write those books either don't have kids to begin with. They may have studied about children but you never really know till you have them. Listen to your child. If you feel that maybe cutting the nap a few day a week, try it and see. It won't harm anyone to try. And if you let your child run around more this may help more as well. Spending that extra half hour at the playground or in your back yard may just be what the doctor ordered.
