Dr's starting to realize scope of sleep issue

Posted by Momonamission on July 11, 2002 at 14:56:35:

I have been researching ALOT on sleep disorders in children. My 6 year old son has had sleep issues since day one. Never has been a good sleeper, different issues at different times! Well we finally started to believe he had ADHD, they upon researching we realized this could be sleep problems. We went to our pediatrician, she concurred and sent us to an ENT.

The ENT was so glad that his doctor had the foresight to send him to be evaluated for sleep problems she couldn't get over it. The dr told me he had enlarged tonsils and we could go through months of sleep study and tests or just schedule a removal. I opted for the removal. I am a mother at my witts end with his behavior, if there is a possiblity it will help I am ALL for it!

He goes in next Friday for an adonotonsilectomy, I am praying that this will help. It was so hard for me to grasp that his behavior could be caused by sleep. Hyperactive behavior, no respect for authority, inablility to listen, problems in school, excessive loudness. All these things that are sure signs of ADD or ADHD. I will update to let everyone know if it truely helps. God knows I am crossing my fingers. We are two parents truley at the end of our ropes!
